Who Is Lord Shiva Parents – Who Is Lord Shiva Father And Mother
Very few people are aware of Shiva’s birth and his parents. Shiva Purana tells about the birth story of Shiva and his parents, according to which Shiva’s parents are Goddess Durga and Sadashiv (Brahma i.e. Kaal).
Shiva’s parents are mentioned in Shrimaddevi Mahapuran. According to Shrimaddevi Mahapuran, once Narada ji asked his father Brahmaji who created the universe. He also asked, who are Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and your father?
While answering Narad ji’s questions, Brahma ji told about the birth of Tridev and their parents. Brahma ji said that Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh were born from the union of Goddess Durga and Shiva form Brahma. That is, Goddess Durga in the form of nature is the mother of all three of us and Brahma i.e. Kaal Sadashiv is our father.
Another mention is found about the parents of Shiva. According to this, once Brahma ji and Vishnu ji have a fight over something. Then Brahma ji says to Vishnu, I am your father because this universe has originated from me, I am Prajapita. Then Vishnu ji says, I am your father, because you have originated from my navel lotus.
Hearing this fight between Brahma-Vishnu, Sadashiv reached there and said, sons, I have given you the work of creation and maintenance of the world. Similarly, I have also given the work of destruction and disappearance to Shiva and Rudra. I have five faces – Aakaar (A) has appeared from one face, Ukaar (U) from the second, Mukaar (M) from the third, Bindu (.) from the fourth and Naad (word) from the fifth. ‘Om’ was created by the integration of these five parts, which is my basic mantra. After this, the anger of Vishnu and Brahma subsided and they understood how they were created.
Birth Of Shiva
A mythological story related to the birth of Shiva is famous in Vishnu Purana. According to this, when the entire universe including earth, sky, underworld was submerged in water, there was no god or creature except Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Then only Vishnu was seen lying on his Sheshnag on the water surface and Brahma appeared on the lotus stem from his navel. Then Brahma refused to recognize him. Then, fearing that Shiva would get angry, Lord Vishnu reminded Brahma about Shiva. Brahma realized his mistake and apologizing to Shiva, he asked for his blessings to be born as his son. Thus Shiva accepted Brahma’s prayer and gave him this blessing.
Who was Lord Shiva’s sister?
According to mythology, Lord Shiva created one of his sisters on the wish of Goddess Parvati. Actually, Goddess Parvati wished that she too had a sister-in-law so that she could be happy. Since Lord Shiva was unborn, he did not have a sister. In such a situation, Goddess Parvati sat down keeping her thoughts in mind.
Lord Shiva understood Goddess Parvati’s thoughts. He asked, “Do you have any problem, Goddess?” To this, Goddess Parvati said, “I wish I too had a sister-in-law.” To this, Lord Shiva said, “I will bring you a sister-in-law, but will you be able to get along with your sister-in-law?” Parvati ji said, “Why can’t I get along with my own sister-in-law?” Lord Shiva said, “Okay Goddess, I will bring you a sister-in-law.” He created a goddess with his Maya. This goddess was very fat. There were cracks in her feet too.
Shiva said to Parvati ji, “Look, your sister-in-law has come. Her name is Asavari Devi.” Goddess Parvati was very happy to see her sister-in-law. She immediately started preparing food for her sister-in-law Devi Asavari. Asavari Devi came after taking a bath and started asking for food. Goddess Parvati served the food. When Asavari Devi started eating, she ate all the food kept in Parvati’s storehouse. She did not leave anything for Mahadev as well. This made Parvati sad.
After this, when Goddess Parvati gave new clothes to her sister-in-law to wear, they were too small for the fat Asavari Devi. Then Parvati started arranging other clothes for her. Meanwhile, sister-in-law Asavari Devi suddenly thought of a joke and hid Parvati in the cracks of her feet. Parvati started suffocating on this. When Mahadev Shivshankar asked Asavari Devi about Parvati Mata, she lied. When Shivji asked again, Asavari Devi started laughing and stamped her feet on the ground. Due to this, Goddess Parvati, who was buried in the cracks of the feet, came out. After this, Parvati Ji asked Mahadev to make preparations for their marriage and send them off as soon as possible.
