1) Totapuri
TotapuriMild in taste and green in color, this variety of mango looks like a parrot’s beak. Coming from states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the pulp of this variety is not as sweet as other varieties, but Totapuri is very good for salads and pickles.
How to identify – When ripe, it is green in color and looks like a parrot’s beak.
2) Hapus
Native to Maharashtra, this variety Hapus is now also grown in parts of Gujarat and Karnataka state. If we go by the reports, it is the most expensive variety which is also exported to other parts of the world.
How to Identify – It has a natural distinctive aroma, the flesh is saffron coloured and without a hint of fibre.
3) Sindhura
This variant is sweet, and yet has a slight tang to it with an aroma that lingers in your mouth for a long time. It is great for preparing shakes, as the pulp has a nice yellow colour.

4) Banginapalle
Significantly larger than its Alphonso counterparts, this variety of mango is produced in Bananapalle in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. With its pleasant aroma, they are oval in shape, with smooth skin and are around 14 cm in length.
How to Identify – It has an oval shape with a light yellow colour with a few spots on it.
5) Ratnagiri
Ratnagiri is found in Devgad, Raigad and Konkan and the interesting part is that each mango weighs between 150 to 300 grams. Alphonso Mango is one of the best varieties of mango found in the country and also the most expensive.
How to Identify – This variety can be easily identified by finding a reddish color on the top of the fruit.
6) Chaunsa
Popular in North India and the state of Bihar, this Chaunsa variety was introduced in the sixteenth century by Sher Shah Suri during his reign. Named after a city in Bihar, this variety is characterized by incredibly sweet pulp and bright yellow skin.
How to Identify – It is characterized by its yellow-golden color.
7) Raspuri
This variety is known as the queen of mangoes in India. It arrives in the month of May and is available till the end of June. It tastes best in yogurt, smoothies and as jam.

8) Pairi
Like Safeda, Pairi is one of the first varieties in the markets. The skin has a reddish tinge and tastes sour, they are used to make aamras in Gujarat.

With a sweet aroma, this variety is a specialty of West Bengal and Orissa. This medium-sized variety weighs between 250-350 grams and has creamy flesh that is good for making desserts and shakes.

Usually found in abundance in June. With orange skin, they are smaller than other varieties.

12) Malda
Malda is also known as the ‘King of Mango’ in Bihar which is completely fiberless. It is a good choice for chutney. It is sweet-sour in taste. Pulpy and delicious.

13) Langra
Langra is a popular variety of mango, which is originally from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. It is known as Langra because it was first grown in a farmer’s field without a leg, which is available from July to August.

14) Kesar
Being one of the most expensive varieties, the colour of the pulp appears like saffron, hence named after saffron. It is mostly grown around Ahmedabad and Gujarat. This variety was first cultivated by the Nawabs of Junagadh in 1931 and was named Kesar in 1934.

15) Badami
