These four months of Lord Shri Hari’s sleep period are known as Chaturmas. These four months include Shravan, Bhadrapad, Ashwin and Kartik months. With the beginning of Chaturmas, all auspicious works like marriage etc. are prohibited for the next four months. Keeping the fast of Devshayani Ekadashi and worshiping Goddess Lakshmi along with Lord Vishnu maintains happiness and prosperity in life.
How to worship Devshayani Ekadashi
On the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, after bathing in the morning, a resolution to fast is taken. It is auspicious to wear yellow clothes on the day of Devshayani. Then the idol of Lord Shri Vishnu is decorated on a stool for worship. Yellow flowers, yellow Bho, yellow clothes and sandalwood etc. are offered in front of Lord Vishnu. Apart from this, the worship material includes betel leaves, betel nuts, basil leaves, lamps and incense etc. To complete the puja, the story of Devshayani Ekadashi is read and after performing aarti, the devotees express their wishes to Shri Hari.
Importance of Tulsi Puja on Devshayani Ekadashi
There is importance of Tulsi puja on Devshayani Ekadashi. It is believed that this does not cause lack of happiness, prosperity, wealth throughout the year. On the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, do parikrama of Tulsi Mata at least 11 times, during this chant the mantra “Om Namo Narayanaya”. Offer red chunari and add Tulsi leaves to Shri Hari in the offering. Keep in mind that do not pluck Tulsi leaves on the day of Ekadashi, pluck them a day before.

Get up in the morning and take a bath, and then clean the house and temple thoroughly.
Meditate on Lord Vishnu with purity and take a vow to fast.
Then install the idol of Lord Vishnu and Maa Lakshmi along with Shriyantra on a pedestal.
Bathe the Lord with Gangajal. After this, light a lamp of desi ghee in front of the idol.
Offer yellow fruits and Panchamrit along with Tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu.
After this, chant the Vedic mantras of Lord Vishnu and also worship in the evening.
Recite the Ekadashi fast story in the evening and finally finish the worship with Aarti.
People fasting on Ekadashi can consume fruits and milk products, but nothing should be eaten or drunk during Nirjala Ekadashi fast.
If you cannot keep Nirjala fast due to health reasons, then you can keep a normal fast.
Paran of Ekadashi fast should be done only during Dwadashi Tithi.
