The Bangalore franchise was bought by Vijay Mallya for $111.6 million, the second highest bid after Reliance Industries ($111.9 million). Only Reliance Industries had invested more than that, with $111.9 million.
United Spirits is part of Diageo PLC, a UK-based business group. However, Vijay Mallya is no longer the owner of the RCB franchise. Vijay Mallya stepped down as director of RCSPL in 2016. Vijay Mallya’s exit came at a time when it was reported that Vijay Mallya owed Rs 9000 crore to 17 Indian banks, due to which Vijay Mallya fled India and now lives in his home in London.
