Let us tell you the reasons for the death of Shri Krishna and the destruction of Yaduvansh.
Krishna Death – How Does Krishna Died (How Does Lord Krishna Died) And When Did Lord Krishna Died
We all know how Krishna was born. But do you know how Lord Krishna died? After the war of Mahabharata, when Duryodhana was killed, his mother Gandhari was very sad. She went to the battlefield to mourn the dead body of her son.
Lord Krishna and Pandavas also went with him. Gandhari was so saddened by the death of her sons that she cursed Lord Krishna to die after 36 years. Lord Krishna smiled and accepted the curse, and exactly 36 years later, he met his end at the hands of a hunter.
Mahabharata is that form of the war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas that turned the soil of Kurukshetra red. It is said that so many people lost their lives in this fierce war that even today the soil of Kurukshetra (where the Mahabharata war was fought) is red with their blood. Jealousy, greed and pride, all these three reasons became the cause of the war between cousins. On one side were 100 Kaurava brothers and on the other side were 5 Pandavas. From Krishna to Bhishma Pitamah, Drona, Shikhandi, etc. all the great warriors participated in this war.
Maharishi Ved Vyas compiled the Mahabharata in 18 parts. The battle of Kurukshetra is the biggest part of this book but even after the war, there is a lot left which is very important to know about. Among them, the incident of Shri Krishna’s death and Dwarka getting submerged in the river is very important.
Mausal Parva is one of the 18 festivals which is a compilation of 8 chapters. This festival describes Shri Krishna leaving his human form and the incident that happened with his city Dwarka after his death.
This incident took place 35 years after the battle of Kurukshetra. Krishna’s city Dwarka was very peaceful and prosperous where fickleness was very common among the youth and they all used to indulge in pleasures and luxuries.
Once Krishna’s son Samba thought of a mischief. Disguised as a woman, he went with his friends to meet Rishi Vishwamitra, Durvasa, Vashishtha and Narada. All of them had come to Dwarka to attend a formal meeting with Shri Krishna. Disguised as a woman, Samba told the sages that she was pregnant. They should tell her the sex of the child in her womb. One of the sages understood the trick and in anger cursed Samba that he will give birth to an iron arrow, which will destroy their clan and empire.
Samba told the whole incident to Ugrasen, who asked Samba to grind the copper arrow into powder and flow it in the Prabhas river, this way he will get rid of the curse. Samba did everything as Ugrasen said. Also, Ugrasen passed an order that no intoxicants of any kind will be produced or distributed in the Yadava kingdom. After this incident, the people of Dwarka experienced various ominous signs. The disappearance of the Sudarshan Chakra, Krishna’s conch, his chariot and Balarama’s plough, increase in crimes and sins, loss of modesty, women betraying their husbands and men betraying their wives, etc. became very common occurrences.
There was a shadow of crime, inhumanity and sin all around. Disrespect for elders and teachers, condemnation, a significant increase in feelings of hatred etc. had become the life of the people of Dwarka. Seeing all this, Lord Krishna got upset and asked his subjects to go to the banks of the Prabhas river and perform a pilgrimage to get rid of their sins. Everyone did so. But when all the Yadavas reached the banks of the Prabhas river, they got intoxicated with alcohol and indulged in pleasures. They would dance, sing and consume alcohol.
Intoxicated with alcohol, Satyaki went to Kritavarma and started criticizing him for plotting to kill Ashwatthama and killing the sleeping soldiers of the Pandava army. Kritavarma also started accusing Satyaki. The argument escalated and during this time Satyaki killed Kritavarma.
Other Yadavas together killed Satyaki for the crime of killing Kritavarma. When Krishna came to know about this, he appeared there and picked up Erka grass in his hand. This grass turned into a rod with which Shri Krishna punished the culprits.
All the drunk people picked up the grass in their hands and the grass in everyone’s hands turned into iron rods. Due to which everyone clashed with each other and started killing each other. Everyone except Vabhru, Daruk and Krishna were killed. Balarama was not a part of this riot, so he also survived. After some time, Vabhru and Balarama also died, after which Krishna sent Daruk to the Pandavas and told him to tell the whole incident to Arjun and seek help from him.
Daruk left for Indraprastha and from behind Shri Krishna left his body. The incident of Krishna’s death is linked to the Prabhas river in which the powder of iron rods was poured. The powder of the iron rod was swallowed by a fish and it became a piece of metal in its stomach. A hunter named Jeeru caught that fish and sharpened the piece of metal that came out of its body to make an arrow. Krishna was sitting in the forest and was engrossed in meditation. Jeeru thought that it was a deer, he shot an arrow at Krishna which killed Shri Krishna.
After some time Arjuna reached Dwarka with help and was extremely saddened to hear the news of Krishna’s death. After Krishna’s departure, his 16000 queens, some women, old people and children remained in Dwarka. They all started leaving for Indraprastha.
But as soon as people got ready to leave Dwarka, the water level started rising. Mlechchha and dacoits attacked Dwarka and when Arjuna started firing weapons to help them, he forgot all the mantras, and the city of Dwarka also submerged under water.
Arjuna came to Indraprastha with some of Shri Krishna’s queens and the remaining subjects and after returning told the whole incident to Yudhishthira. Lord Krishna’s entire Yadav dynasty gradually ended and Dwarka sank into the sea where it still lies.
When Did Lord Krishna Died
It is believed that Shri Krishna got a curse due to which he was freed from the earth 36 years after the battle of Kurukshetra and after a few years the city of Dwarka was destroyed. Lord Krishna was born on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month in Rohini Nakshatra. At the same time, according to the astrological information given by Ved Vyas, Lord Krishna died on 13 April 3031.
It is said that after the war, Shri Krishna ruled Dwarka for 36 years, after which Shri Krishna left his body, at that time he was 125 years old.
