Dogs Breed Ban In India – For some time now, incidents like deaths of people due to attacks by foreign breed dogs have been in the news. Meanwhile, it was also believed that keeping such breeds is injustice to the dogs themselves. In view of this, the Government of India talked about banning 23 dangerous breeds. In almost all the countries of the world, many breeds have been banned since decades.
Heartbreaking cases of dog attacks are continuously coming from different parts of the country. Different reasons were being given behind them, but amidst all this, the demand was also growing that those animals of foreign breed, which are considered dangerous, should be banned from being kept. The government also accepted this demand to some extent. The Center talked about banning the import, sale and breeding of aggressive dogs of 23 breeds and asked the state governments to look into it. These are the breeds which are a threat to humans.

Amidst the deaths due to attacks by pet dogs, the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department of the Central Government has banned the sale and breeding of 23 breeds of ferocious dogs. In this regard, a letter has been issued to the Chief Secretaries of the states on March 12 itself. Now the Municipal Corporation has started preparations to take action under the new rules.
Even if the state governments impose a complete ban on these breeds, there will still be exemption for those owners who already have banned breeds. But there are many conditions in this as well. Like the dogs should have a license so that it remains on record. Along with this, they should also be vaccinated and sterilized. The owner will have to keep a record of all this so that the concerned department can see it. Apart from this, new licenses will also not be issued now.

We also have many other angles to the story
Here, not only dog attacks lead to deaths, but the country also topped in terms of deaths from rabies. In the year 2021, the World Health Organization said that more than 21 thousand deaths occur annually in India due to rabies. This is 36 percent of the whole world. In the last few years, with the increasing menace of stray dogs, the risk of this deadly disease is also increasing. Along with this, people’s anger towards dogs is also increasing.
Now such cases are also coming up where people tried to kill or injure dogs. Seeing all this, the Center proposed a ban on it. If we take Pitbull or American Bulldog, these are wild breeds. If they are not trained properly before keeping them at home, then they become violent and directly attack humans. They were banned in Poland in the year 1997 itself. After this, almost all the countries banned keeping, breeding or importing Pitbulls.
Restrictions are strict in Britain
There are such breeds of dogs in Britain, which have become illegal to keep or buy-sell. These are Pill Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, American XL Bully Dogs and Fila Brasileiro. All these breeds are those which were raised for war. Most of them are born from cross-breeding. It is not easy to handle them. This ban was implemented there only a few months ago.
If someone keeps banned dogs, the UK police will arrest them. It does not matter how good the dog’s record is, or how calm it is. Apart from humans, cases of dog attacks on sheep or small animals were quite high here.
Permission in American states with these conditions
23 types of dogs are banned in all the states of America. In many states, this list is long, and there are many conditions as well, such as there should be no small children in the house. The owner should be 21 years of age or older. Apart from this, there should be liability insurance of 1 lakh dollars. Houses that have dogs should have a warning board in any case. In most countries, if you are traveling with dogs, you have to first check the list of banned dogs.
Canada is the only country where only two states have banned pit bulls. At other places, you can bring your dog after vaccination and muzzling it.
