1) Shri Sankadi Muni

According to religious texts, in the beginning of creation, Lok Pitamaha Brahma performed severe penance with the desire to create many worlds. Pleased with his penance, Lord Vishnu took incarnation in the form of four sages named Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatana and Sanatkumara, with the name San, which means penance. These four were dedicated to the path of salvation since their appearance, were engrossed in meditation, Nityasiddha and Nitya Virakt. They are considered to be the first incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

2) Varaha Avatar

According to religious texts, Lord Vishnu took the second incarnation in the form of Varaha. In ancient times, when a demon named Hiranyaksha took the earth and hid it somewhere in the sea, then Lord Narayana appeared in the form of Varaha from the nose of Brahmadev.

3) Narad Avatar

According to religious texts, Devarshi Narad is also one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. According to the scriptures, Narad Muni is one of the seven Manas Putras of Brahma. He has attained the position of Devarshi by doing hard penance.

4) Nar-Narayan

In the beginning of creation, Lord Vishnu took incarnation in two forms to establish religion. In this incarnation, he was wearing matted hair on his head. He had signs of swan in his hands, chakra in his feet and Shrivatsa on his chest. According to religious texts, Lord Vishnu appeared in this incarnation as Nar-Narayan.

5) Kapil Muni

Lord Vishnu Ji took the fifth incarnation in the form of Kapil Muni. Kapil Muni’s father’s name was Maharishi Kardam and his mother’s name was Devahuti. At the time of Bhishma Pitamah’s death while lying on the bed of arrows, Bhagwa Kapil was also present there along with sages like Vedgya Vyas.

6) Dattatreya Avatar

According to religious texts, Dattatreya is also an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Chandrama was born from Brahma’s part, Durvasa from Shankar’s part and Dattatreya from Vishnu’s part.

7) Yagya

The name of the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu is Yagya Avatar. According to religious texts, Lord Yagya was born in Swayambhuva Manvantar.

12) Lord Dhanvantari

According to religious texts, when the gods and demons churned the ocean together, the first thing that came out of it was a terrible poison which Lord Shiva drank. After this, Uchchaisrava horse, Goddess Lakshmi, Airavat elephant, Kalpa tree, Apsaras and many more gems came out from Samudra Manthan. At last Lord Dhanvantari appeared with Amrit Kalash. This Dhanvantari is considered to be the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He is also considered to be the lord of medicines.

13) Mohini Avatar

According to religious texts, Lord Vishnu did good to the gods by taking the Mohini avatar. When the demons and the gods churned the ocean together, they extracted Amrit from the churning. The demons snatched Amrit from the gods by deceit, then the gods started praying to Lord Vishnu for help, hearing the prayers, the Lord took the form of Mohini, a very beautiful and attractive woman, and with the effect of his Maya, fascinated the demons and regained the Amrit.

14) Lord Narasimha

Lord Vishnu killed the demon king Hiranyakashipu by taking the Narasimha avatar. When Hiranyakashipu was about to kill Prahlad himself, then Lord Vishnu appeared from the pillar in the form of Narasimha and killed Hiranyakashipu with his nails.

15) Vamana avatar

After some time, Lord Vishnu took the Lord Vamana avatar.

16) Hayagriva Avatar

In the Hayagriva Avatar, Lord Vishnu’s neck and face were like that of a horse. Then Lord Hayagriva reached the underworld and killed Madhu-Kaitabh and gave the Vedas back to Lord Brahma.

17) Shrihari Avatar

According to religious texts, on hearing Gajendra’s praise, Lord Hari appeared and killed the crocodile with his Chakra. Lord Hari rescued Gajendra and made him his councillor.

According to Hindu religious texts, Parashurama was one of the major incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

19) Maharishi Ved Vyas

In the Puranas, Maharishi Ved Vyas is also considered to be a part of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vyas was the incarnation of Narayan. He also composed the Mahabharata.

In Dwapar Yuga, Lord Vishnu destroyed the unrighteous by taking the Shri Krishna avatar. Kansa was also killed by Lord Krishna. He became Arjun’s charioteer in the Mahabharata war and gave the knowledge of Gita to the world. He established religion by making Dharmaraj Yudhishthira the king. 23) Buddha Avatar

According to religious texts, Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, was also an avatar of Lord Vishnu.

24) Kalki Avatar

According to religious texts, in the present Kaliyug, Lord Narayan Vishnu will take the form of Kalki. Kalki avatar will take place at the junction of Kaliyug and Satyayug, which will be endowed with 64 arts. According to the Puranas, Lord Kalki will be born as the son of an ascetic Brahmin named Vishnuyash at a place called Shambhal in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Kalki will ride on a horse called Devadatta and destroy the sinners from this world and also re-establish religion.
