1) Matsya Avatar
Vishnu incarnated in the form of a fish in the Satyuga to save Manu and seven great sages Sapta Rishis from the great deluge. Before the great deluge, he instructed Manu to save every living being, vegetation and plant present in the entire universe along with him. Lord Vishnu saved the Vedas from being destroyed in the Matsya Avatar.
2) Kurma Avatar
During the Samudra Manthan, the Mandara Mountain was used by the Devas and Asuras to churn the ocean, but the impact on the ocean was so great that the Mandara Mountain started sinking. At this time, Vishnu took the form of a tortoise (Kurma) to support the mountain and prevent it from sinking. As is popularly known, the Mandara Mountain represents the human mind in the ocean of universal consciousness.
3) Varaha Avatar
Once during the Satya Yuga, the demon king Hiranyakashyapa stole Goddess Bhudevi. To rescue her from the clutches of the demon, Vishnu took the form of Varaha or a wild boar. A long and fierce battle took place between the demon and Vishnu avatar Varaha. Finally, Varaha was able to rescue the Earth or Bhudevi from the demon.

Once during the Satyuga, the demon king Hiranyakashipu received a powerful boon from Lord Brahma, that he could not be killed by man, animal, inside or outside his palace, day or night, earth or stars or by any weapon. Having received this boon, the demon became a terror to the gods and saints and started torturing everyone. To save the pious souls, Vishnu appeared with the body of a man, and the head and claws of a lion, and slayed the demon Hiranyakashipu with his claws, staying on his thighs at the threshold of the demon’s house and courtyard.
5) Vamana Avatar
Once, the demon king Mahabali (grandson of Prahlada) had become so powerful and arrogant that the gods were afraid of him. They sought help from Vishnu, who disguised himself as a small Brahmin (Vamana) and requested Mahabali to give a gift of three feet of land, which the king graciously granted him. To fulfill the boon, Vamana Avatar started increasing his size and placed one foot on the ground and one on the sky. The demon king realized that it was Lord Vishnu, so he bowed his head and Vamana placed his foot on the demon king’s head. It gave immortality to the king but promised him to run his kingdom in hell.
6) Parashurama Avatar
Parashurama was the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu who appeared in Treta Yuga to take revenge from the Kshatriyas for their arrogance and unrighteousness. Lord Parashurama’s Guru is Mahadev Shiva. He gifted Parashurama an axe, which we know as Farsa, and also taught Parashurama the art of warfare.

Rama was the seventh incarnation of Vishnu who was the son of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya. Rama was a righteous man and the best example of a pious king. He gave up his kingdom for the sake of his father’s promise and his brother Bharata and accepted exile in the forests with his wife and brother Lakshmana.
